I was able to tour Heartland Horseshoeing School today and was thoroughly impressed. Not only was Chris and Cody very friendly and welcoming but all of the students were friendly as well; this is a testament to the leadership and influence of this father/son team. As I talked with the students, I learned that the school is very challenging and demanding. All the students seemed to realize that if they recieved a passing grade, they were going to earn every bit of it. This is how a horseshoeing school should be. Lots of hard work; lots of sweat; lots of encouragement; and lots of truth. I found nothing fake about this school.
Most amazing place. Cody and Chris have a fantastic teaching method and an uncanny ability to push people beyond their comfort level. They constantly were helping any one who needed assistance, had a question or were experiencing a new method. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to be the very best farrier they could dream of being...
I watched as good horsemanship skills were taught and practiced. One could definitely tell that these people care about the animals that they are dealing with. Especially Blueberry, the blue heeler dog that doubled as the favoured pet and mascot of Heartland.
Not good the place was filthy. Because we worked Saturday he kept 75% of my money. There was drinking which he said WOULD NOT be tolaraded. His son kicked the dogs we had been feeding because he was mad.
Committed to excellence, friendly and thoughtful. Had a nice morning. Ponies were done before the storms hit without compromising quality of work.
If you want to go to school to learn how to work hard and work with integrity to be the best farrier you can be, you should definitely check out Heartland Horseshoeing School. If you want something that is easy, don't.
Currently a student at heartland. Please ignore the 1 star review. This is a very rewarding job however horseshoeing is a dirty job no matter where you are and we are expected to clean up after ourselves like we should. The instructor does not drink period. Moving on. The facility has everything you need to learn and get through school. Chris is a great teacher. We have the most under horse experience for the time we have then any other school which has many benefits. We also go over the anatomy very thoroughly and learn how to use coal and propane forges. We also learn how to make a large number of practical shoes. Best school hands down!
